A Project Shop Restoration

It is really important to define what a classic car restoration is when you are comparing the cost and time scale of a project. To us, a restoration is a process in which each component in your vehicle is returned to ‘as new’ condition or better.

These components are carefully assembled and tested until you have a fully functional, reliable classic car of your dreams. To most others a restoration is little more than a fresh coat of paint.

Restoring a vehicle is difficult. It generally takes between 1,000 and 1,500 skilled man hours to do it professionally. Projects have to be meticulously planned and ongoing communication between all the parties involved is paramount to its success.

Project Shop has a dedicated restoration team and ‘clean build room’. In order to produce the finest finished product you can be assured that:

  • Comprehensive budget and build plan agreed before a spanner has been lifted.
  • Conscientious, documented strip of vehicle.
  • Grade all components for repair, refurbishment, replacement or upgrade.
  • Fully documented process to make sure all components repaired, refurbished or purchased are ready for the rebuild.
  • Body repair and paintwork carried out by expert classic car paint shops, overseen by Project Shop.
  • Major component rebuild (engine, gearbox, diff) carried out by marque specialists.
  • Bespoke interiors handcrafted in house either to original or owners specification.
  • New wiring looms and in-house refurbished clocks and gauges.
  • A two-man team which will see your rebuild through from start to finish.
  • Updates including pictures of the builds progress twice a week, with progress reports against budget weekly.

How Much Does It Cost?

Costing a restoration is quite a complex job in itself. There are a number of factors that can dramatically change the finances. These include:

  • The make and model of the vehicle you are restoring
  • Modifications or upgrades away from OEM spec
  • Original condition – How much can be re-used
  • Condition of the body – How much repair will be required before a repaint
  • Availability of parts – How much will have to be fabricated or made
