Quality mineral oil is used in classic engines because:

MOTUL was the first manufacturer to develop a multigrade engine oil. Today’s 20W50 Classic is a modern formula of their traditional 1950’s recipe. Over and above being the perfect engine oil for most classics from the 50’s to the 80’s, it contains a modern ‘stickiness additive’ helping to keep your engine components covered in a protective layer of oil even when stored for long periods of time.
For the first 60 years of motoring many gearboxes were designed to take the same or very similar oil to the engine. MOTUL20W/50 is a quality multigrade mineral oil that works very well in 4 and 5 speed gearboxes from the 1960’s. It has a mild-detergent level so it is compatible with paper gaskets and early rubber seals found in most gearboxes from this era.
