AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
In the world of classic cars, automatic transmission oil is fairly straightforward. Almost all ATF’s have been designed to be backwards compatible, so as long as you don’t use one specifically designed for a modern DCT or CVT transmission little harm can come to your automatic gearbox.
In the workshop we use MOTUL Dextron IID for cars built before 1990. This mineral based product is perfect for older vehicles with original style seals and gaskets. For recently rebuilt transmissions and those from younger cars we use MOTUL Multi ATF, a synthetic fluid. Specialist fluids must be used for DCT and CVT transmissions.
