Semi-Synthetic oil is used in performance classic engines because:

  • Engine tolerances were significantly reduced by the Germans and Japanese
  • Oil pumps became increasingly better allowing for lower cold temperature viscosity
  • Oil filtration became more advanced allowing for higher levels of detergent to keep engines clean and efficient
  • The semi-synthetic formulation allowed for longer service intervals

MOTUL were the first lubricant manufacturers to develop semi-synthetic oils for the automotive market. Originally launched in 1966 to cater for the burgeoning 'high performance market' MOTUL 2100 has been updated to be the perfect choice of engine oil for 70's performance cars such as Porsche, Ferrari, BMW and Mercedes.  This semi-synthetic oil remains fluid enough at low temperatures to give great start-up protection whilst maintaining its viscosity at high engine temperatures. A semi-synthetic oil is one which is reinforced with a synthetic base. This means it degrades slower than a mineral oil as it does not oxidise as quickly.  It also helps maintain viscosity throughout its working temperature range giving a more stable engine oil pressure.
